Abstract

13,359. Johnson, J. Y., [Soc. Anon. des Forges de Douai]. June 13. Doors, wagon.-Doors, traps, and the like, especially the doors of hopper wagons, are operated by a swinging link 8 pivoted at 9 and having at its lower end a roller running on a curved rail 11 fixed to the door. The door is pivoted at one end on trunnions, each of which can slide in an elongated slot 4. To close the door, a shaft 16 is rotated to wind up a chain 17 which lifts the door. At the same time, a pinion on the shaft actuates a rack 15 which puehes on the link 8 and causes the roller on the end of the link to move along the rail 11. When the door is fully raised, the roller will have moved up to the stop 12, and its further motion will carry the door towards the right, the trunnions sliding in the elongated eyes 4 to allow this, and the lower right-hand edge of the door will thus be moved over the support 5. To open the door, the shaft is turned in the reverse direction, so that the roller on the link 8 is moved to the left into the position shown, when it comes against another stop and pulls the door away from the support 5 until it can fall open. The chain 17 is always kept taut by a spring connecting the pulley on which it is wound to the shaft 16.
