Abstract
11,615. Lawson, J. C. May 20. Moulding butter. -Relates to improvements in apparatus for forming pats of butter described in Specification No. 4326, A.D. 1897, and consists of a container b, Figs. 2 and 3, carried in grooves d formed in the base of a frame a and the underside of a bridge-piece h pivoted to a standard f carried by an extension e of the frame. Moving in the container is a plunger s, actuated by a screw u gearing in the standard and guided by rods 15, one of which may be graduated. The plunger is connected to the screw by a double pin v passing through the boss w and a groove x in the end of the screw. The dieholder i is supported by pins o engaging in slots p, formed in side cheeks q carried by lugs r and is connected to the bridgepiece h by a slotted link j. When the material has been compressed in the moulds, the pressure is released, the die-holder lowered into the bath 12 and the extruded butter cut off by the apparatus shown in Figs. 2 and 3, consisting of two bell cranks z pivoted to the cheeks q and connected by a handle 1. The cutter is formed by a wire, the ends 6, Fig. 6, of which are secured by screws 7 to slides 3 moving in the slots 2 and provided with projections 4 engaging in the slots p. The cutting-wire is cleaned by an inclined brush 10. When the material is in a loose condition, a slab 11 is slipped in the grooves p and the material first of all compressed. Fig. 7 shows a pattern ring 19 with projections 20 and recesses 21 engaged by corresponding projections on the die.
