Abstract
11,111. Guatin, A. J. May 13. Pulley-blocks; winches.-Relates to electrically - operated winches or pulley - blocks in which the hoisting-chain hangs from both sides of a hoisting- barrel, and consists of clutching and self - sustaining gear operative in either direction of rotation, so that loads can be raised by the two ends of the hoisting chain alternately. The shaft 18, driven through an adjustable spring clutch 13 and gearing from the motor 5, is screwed to receive the chainbarrel 21, between which and fast collars 20 are discs 24 loose on the shaft. The hub of each disc 24 is formed with symmetrically placed hooks 26 and cams 27, adapted to engage rollers 31 on brake blocks 30 pivoted to a disc 28 on an inwardly projecting part of the shaft bearing. On hoisting, the barrel 21 is screwed towards one or other of the discs 24, according to the direction of rotation, gripping it against the abutment collar 20, and the hooks 26 engage the rollers 31 and carry the brake blocks round in heir retracted position. On ceasing to hoist, the load turns the barrel 21 together with the operative disc 24 in the reverse direction, but the cams 27 immediately force the brake blocks in action, thus holding the load.
