Abstract
10,048. Brooksbank, F. W., and Towle, A. May 2. Lace and lace - making. - Diamond - meshed grounds for Valenciennes and like laces are made in four or six motions instead of eight. The meshes shown in Fig. 2 are obtained by using two warps for each bobbin, dividing each set into halfsets A, C and B, D, and traversing each warp, first two gaits and one gait in one direction and then the same in the reverse direction. The warps A, C have the same movements as the warps B, D but are two motions ahead. The bobbin threads E, F do not twist with the warps, but pass, first between pairs of threads belonging to one set, then through the bends of the loops formed from the other set. The bobbin threads thus lock the overlapping loops of the two sets of warps together. The net shown in Fig. 4 having a bobbin thread to every warp, is obtained by a similar cycle. A six-motion net, resembling the last in appearance, is obtained by traversing the warps A, B one gait in opposite directions at each motion, excepting the fifth and sixth, in which they stand and move two gaits respectively. " Half-gauge " and " broken-gauge " nets are produced by pairing all, or a smaller number of the bobbins.
