5509. Bannister, J. T., and Smith, G. F. March 7. Organs, harmoniums, and like instruments.-A pneumatic action is shown as applied to a slidesoundboard. A membrane plate I is divided by partitions, not shown, into as many divisions as there are notes, and by other partitions I' into ports K, N, adapted to be closed by the membrane M. The passage K communicates with the usual motor bellows D controlling the pallets B, and the space below the membrane communicates with a passage J leading from a double-disc valve 0, O<1>, controlled by the motor bellows S from the key in the usual way. The passage J also communicates with the passage K through a valve L, but the use of this valve is optional. The stems R fit loosely in the top of the bellows S, and are guided by a rail Q. The pallet holes P<1> may be enclosed and supplied with air at a higher pressure than that in the wind-chest.
