Abstract

26,173. Dewerpe, A., and Mayeur, J. Nov. 30. Blowing.-Relates to a glass-blowing tool for use in blowing jar or bottle necks, and all hollow glassware, but more particularly for blowing cylinders for window glass. The tool, which consists of two concentric tubes A, B, braced near their lower ends by a number of radial arms C, is lowered into the glass, until the lower edge of a bait G, attached to the lower end of the outlet tube B, touches the glass. A small quantity of compressed air or other blowing-fluid is then admitted through the inlet pipe A, to prevent the glass from rising within the bait, which is then lowered into the glass and the pressure of the blowing-fluid increased to start a small bulb, after which the tool is raised and the pressure further increased to expand the bulb to the shape desired. The heated air rising from the glass escapes through openings D in a cap which closes the upper end of the outlet tube B, the openings D being normally closed by spring-controlled valves E. In a modified form, the inlet and outlet tubes are arranged side by side, and joined by an elbow near their lower ends.
