Abstract

24,631. Fouraeau, E. F. A. Nov. 12. Medicinal preparations.-Amido-alcohols of the type : which are useful, along with their derivatives, in medicine &c., are produced by the action of fatty amines upon halohydrins, or of organomagnesium halides upon amidoketones. Thus, ethyl dimethyl amidobutanol, (C2H5)2 : C(OH). CH2N : (CH3)2, is obtained by digesting the corresponding chlorhydrin with dimethylamine, extracting with dilute hydrochloric acid, washing with benzene, saturating with soda, extracting with ether and, after evaporating off the ether, distilling in vacuo. It boils at 76‹-79‹ C. under 23 mm. pressure. Phenyl diethyl amidopropanol results from the action of diethylamido-acetophenone upon methyl magnesium bromide, with subsequent treatment with ice and dilute hydrochloric acid and saturation with soda &c. as before ; its boiling point is 147‹-149‹ C. under 24 mm. All the bases are more soluble in cold water than hot, reduce acid. potassium permanganate solution and silver salts, and yield characteristic esters with acidyl chlorides such as benzoyl, acetyl, cinnamyl, and valeryl chlorides, or with acid anhydrides upon subsequent treatment with alkali.
