Abstract
24,448. Hall, J., and Manchester Platen Machine Safety Guard Co. Nov. 11. Platen presses, guards for. A transverse handguard bar c, described in Specification No. 19,261, A.D. 1897, is made to sweep under the ram a, which descends on the fixed die b, by the side levers c', c<5>. The lever c' carries the bar c and is hinged at c' on a stud. This stud slides in a slot c<4> of a slotted bracket c<3> fixed to the ram, in which slot it is secured to adjust the guard, by the nut c<11>. The levers c', c<5> are hinged together and set at such relative angles to each other that, as the ram a descends, the guard c is swept outwards to push away the hand of the attendant. As the ram ascends, the guard is drawn back by a spring c<10> attached at one end to the rod c<5> and at the other to a fixed stud c<6> on which the slot of the rod c<5> bears. The lever c<1> is divided and slotted at c<7>, so that its length can be adjusted by the pinching- screw c<8> to regulate the height of the guard.
