Abstract

23,334. Satterthwaite, C. G. Oct. 28. Firelighters. - A composition is formed by mixing wood chippings or shavings, sawdust, and mineral or common oil. Some of the composition is placed between the endj of sticks, which are compressed in a machine, bound with string or wire, and dipped in resin. A small quantity of peat may be added to the mixture. The firelighter is shown in Fig. 1 constructed with four sticks. The machine is shown in front elevation in Fig. 2. Two covers e are pivoted to the channeliron standards c, so as to be turned up or turned back on to the brackets e<X>, as shown. Between the standards are two fixed vertical rods d, d<x>. The sticks are placed horizontally with their ends and the composition in the channels. The covers are then turned up, and the pressers g, g<X> raised bv means of the connecting-rod k and treadle j, the rise being limited by the stops n. The treadle is then held down by the catch in the lever p, while the sticks are bound.
