Abstract

21,594. Mather, Sir W. Oct. 7. Printing fabrics.-Relates to cams having a variable effective length, which may be used in machines for printing fabrics to hold the printing- rollers or other parts in and out of operation as required. The cam-wheel a, which in a fabricprinting machine is fixed on the shaft b of the printing-roller c or co-axial therewith, is provided with a circumferential rib d built up of blocks e which can slide independently of each other in transverse grooves in the rim. The blocks e are held in position by spring catches f, Fig. 5, which engage notches g on the rim, or by flat springs h, Fig. 7, which press against the blocks. The camblocks are pushed into their operative positions, as the wheel rotates, by a lever i, Fig. 5, carrying a roller k and mounted on a shaft l. A second lever m, Fig. 2, is geared with the shaft l and is actuated by tappets n on an endless chain o. The number and position of the tappets determine the lengths of the cam surfaces. Tappets n of varying lengths on the chain o may act directly on the cam-blocks e, the chain being brought against the edge of the cam-wheel by a slanting guide p. The blocks are returned to their normal positions by cams q, Fig. 2.
