Abstract
21,080. Glenister, T. Oct. 1. Chairs; seats; couches.-Relates to an adjustable spring action for the backs of chairs, seats, and couches. The back a, provided with an adjustable upholstered pad m, is hinged to projections n at the back of the seat b. A. helical spring c tending to tilt the back a forward is interposed between an extended tail-piece e of the back and a cross-piece d beneath the seat. The motion of the back a is limited by a curved link g, a slot h in which passes over a pin i fixed to a lug l beneath the seat. The other end of the link g is made in the form of a rack j and furnished with an additional slot r through which passes a bolt s, secured to the extension e of the back a. This bolt is provided with a toothed washer k which, on tightening the thumb-nut t, engages the rack j on the side of the link g. The inclination of the back a may thus be adjusted.
