Abstract
17,760. Liebhaber, E. D. de. Aug. 17. Surface - treating compositions; snow and ice, melting.-The formation of dust, ice, and coatings of snow on roads, paths, walking-grounds, and the like is prevented, and ice and snow are removed therefrom, by watering the road &c. with a solution of calcium chloride or other deliquescent substance, or distributing the dry substance over it in the form of powder or small fragments. To prevent the deliquescent substance from being swept or washed away, it may be mixed with, or dissolved in, petroleum or some other substance capable of causing it to adhere to the surface ; or the petroleum and the deliquescent substance may be applied separately.
