Abstract

14,873. Strang, W. July 4 Corded fabrics; tissuefigured fabrics.-A fabric is woven inverted with a plain ground, and a cord C secured to its face by a thread E operated by a lappet needle. The cord is operated by suitable known mechanism b e - tween the reed and the lappet needle. The lappet needle rises on the left of the cord, and on the right of a warp thread B, a weft A is shot, and the needle is lowered. Both the needle and the cord are then moved to the left, the cord passing the needle, so that the needle rises again on the right of the cord, and on the left of the adjacent warp thread to the left. This operation is repeated shot about, or every second or other shot, as desired, the thread E forming a distinct loop round the cord C. Several cords may be secured together at one place, and the needle mechanism and the cord mechanism may be arranged to move the needle and cord transversely to any desired extent, so as to form a pattern other than straight.
