Air-heating and ventilating stoves cooking-stoves. -A stove for supplying hot pure air to and removing cold foul air from a building and which may be adapted for use as a cooking-stove, has a fire-box 4 and an ash box 5 separated by a grate 6 and situated between two longitudinal partitions 2, 3. The wood or other fuel is supplied through an opening closed by a door 8 with a catch 9. The ashpit contains a pan 11 having a fixed handle 13, a pivoted bail 12, and guide-lugs 15 sliding on rails 14. The ashpit opening is closed by a hinged door 16, having a catch, and air inlets controlled by a slide 19. The supply of fresh air to a space 32, between the partition 3 and the casing, is controlled by a damper 36, and the air passes by pipes 38, 41, 40, 39 into the room to be heated. The passage of foul air into a space 28, between the casing and the partition 2, is controlled by a sliding door 30. The foul air and the products of combustion pass through apertures in a partition 21 into a smokebox 22 with an opening 24 leading to a discharge elbow 25 with a collar 27 to receive the chimney. When the foul-air draught is open, the fire is allowed to burn very slowly. A rectangular stove is shown. In a modification, the casing is cylindrical and the smoke chamber is divided into three compartments by two vertical partitions. The side compartments have openings leading into the room to be heated and communicate with the fresh-air compartment. In a rectangular cooking-stove, the products of combustion and the foul air are led round an oven at the side of the fresh-air chamber, while the hot air is discharged through openings in the top hot plate, which has pot openings with removable lids. The fresh-air supply is controlled by a sliding damper operated by an external lever.
