Abstract

14,160. Pepper, W. June 25. Games imitating cricket. - A game imitating cricket is played with bats shaped like a tennis racquet and having a hole in the lower part to which a net is attached. The stumps are hinged to a platform a, behind which is a net e termed a " magazine " ; the net, platform, and stumps constitute a "castle." The striker tries to hit the ball into a " fort" r consisting of a net attached to a suitable upright and bearing a number which is scored if the ball enters the fort. The game is played by sides who field on opposite sides of the line C. The ball is elevated for the bowler to deliver it, by a spring-actuated piston, which, when released by a catch, raises the ball so that the bowler can strike it.
