India-rubber substitutes.-Castor and other oils, which have been nitrated as described in Specification No. 21,995, A.D. 1895, are heated for several hours in contact with air at a temperature of 130‹ C., the product being suitable as a rubber substitute. The nitrated oils may, however, be treated with an oxidizing-agent, such as about 2 per cent. of lead peroxide, and then heated to a temperature of 100‹ C. with constant stirring.
