Abstract

13,208. Lange, C. J. F. June 12. Writing-pads; writing, teaching.- Relates to an arrangement for altering the position of the sheet as it is written upon, the hand and body remaining in the same position, so that the eyes are at equal distances from the writing and the copy. A board or base-plate a, Fig. 1, is provided with guide-rods b, b<1>, upon which slide sleeves c, d, connected by a rod e. The rod is pivoted to one sleeve, while its other end may be secured in any one of a series of holes g in an extension f of the other sleeve, so that the angle and position of the paper, pad, or book i, which is held by a clamp h sliding on the rod e, may be altered. In a modification, the arrangement for varying the angle is carried by the sliding clamp, the rod e being fixed to both sleeves. In another modification, one guide-rod is employed, the arrangement for varying the angle being carried by the sleeve. In another modification, the clamp carrying the pad slides on a vertical guide-rod, angular adjustment being provided by a perforated plate secured to the table under the base-plate. In another modification, the guide-rod e, Fig. 5, is pivoted at one end, the other end sliding over a perforated plate g. The fingers are guided in writing by a bar p, which may also serve as a ruler. A pointer q may be provided for indicating the correct distance between the lines. For moving the paper, a rod may be provided upon one of the sleeves or its extension, or upon the clamp which carries the paper, or upon the rod on which the clamp slides. The copy is held upon a desk-like arrangement, Fig. 6<a>, movably secured to the blotter and capable of being folded down thereon. The guide-rods in the various arrangements may be replaced by slots or other devices.
