12,810. McKean, J. June 8. Winding.-In winding crisped or doubled fabrics on to a flat board or a round roller F, the slack of the inner ply, due to its smaller tension, is caused to be continually taken in, by passing the fabric to the board or roller over and under tension bars R and over a conical roller C, the doubled edge pressing over the smaller part of the roller, which may be driven by frictional contact with the fabric, or independently, and, in some cases, at a speed varying with that of the fabric. The smaller circumference of the roller, when driven positively, moves at the speed of the fabric, and the roller may be fluted or covered with india-rubber &c. A cylindrical roller may be employed in place of the conical roller, for some kinds of fabrics. When winding the fabric on to a roller F, it is drawn over a convex plate P hinged close to the conical or cylindrical roller and resting on the roll of fabric.
