Abstract
9956. Simpson, H., and Thomlinson, R. May 2. Alarms, fire and temperature.-An alarm, similar to that described in Specification No. 22,666, A.D. 1900, is actuated automatically when the temperature gradually or suddenly reaches a predetermined maximum. The alarm consists of a long tube 3 containing an expansible liquid acting on a flexible capsule 4 communicating with a rubber tube 5 constrained to move axially. A liquid container, housed in the casing 1 and connected to a similar tube 7, is made of material that responds slowly to changes of temperature and assumes the normal temperature of the room. The tubes 5, 7 act, respectively, on adjustable contacts A, B. With a sudden rise of temperature, the contact A overtakes the contact B and completes the circuit of the bell 11. With a gradual rise in temperature, the contacts A, B move until the former closes on the latter against the fixed contact C. The circuit may be tested by a push 13.
