8680. Mills, B. J. B., [" Secretary "]. April 16. Gas stoves.-Relates to stoves of the kind which are designed for attachment to an ordinary gas burner. Two modifications are shown, respectively, in Figs. 1 and 6, in each of which a combustion chamber is formed between an inner ball or cylinder 12, 63 and an outer casing 20, 69 of foraminous material. To this chamber the gases from a bunsen burner 2, which is covered with a suitable mantle 36, 57, are admitted. A suitable protective casing such as 45, 80 may be provided. As regards Fig. 1, the base block 1, which fits upon the burner 2, supports the balls &c., the inner of which, in this case, are not concentric, a narrowing taking place at the part 38 and an expansion at 39. The gases escape from the combustion chamber through the perforations 40 of the cap, which is supported, together with the outer casings, on the rod 11. In a modification, the ball and the casing are concentric, in which case the annulus 39 is omitted. The top of the ball is engaged by an apertured nut, which in turn is engaged by the flue. As regards Fig. 6, the supply pipe 52 is shown as emerging from a conical space in the support 50 and carrying the bunsen burner 53 and the bottom 55 with the mantle 57. The bottom carries the shell 63, constructed of suitable material, for instance, metal or fireclay having a polished surface, and the foraminous cylinder 69. The upper ends of these are held by suitable perforated cap nuts screwed upon the rod 61. Surrounding the stove, a shield with the open flue or hood 83 may be placed.
