Abstract
7920. Galley, J. G. April 6. Striking-plates and staples; latches; fastenings, railway carriage door.-The flat or curved striking- plate a, attached to the door jamb, is formed with a slot, or a recess, in which works the plate b, pivoted at b<1>, and pressed outwards by the spring f, acting against the bridge a<3> formed on the plate a. The latch or lock bolt engages the part c of the slot. The bridge a<3> forms a stop to the motion of the plate b, and projections on the plate prevent it from moving out of the slot in the plate a. For railway-carriage doors, a safety-catch or shoulder b<5> may be provided.
