Abstract

7102. Pendlebury, T. March 27. Organs, harmoniums, and like instruments.-Relates to a wind-c h e s t with membrane valves for admitting wind to organ pipes. Pipe-holes E in the upper boards D of stop compartments A have fitted to them motal tubes or conveyances F of the shape shown. Apertures G in the upper boards communicate by means of wind-ways I, J and valve N with a small chest K, always filled with wind. The membranes H are thus forced down on to the upturned ends of tubes F and close them, but the valve N can be moved to cut off communication with the chest K, and open a passage to the air. The wind pressure in A then forces up the membranes H and sounds the pipe. The conveyances F are preferably of zinc or lead, but modified constructions in wood may be adopted.
