Abstract
190,301. Kroutl, E. Oct. 15, 1921. Pencil-holders. - In a pencilholder, the case comprises two sliding parts e, h and the lead is propelled by a sliding rack a, the front portion of which is formed as a lead-driver b and the teeth of which project through a longitudinal slot f in the inner part e and engage two spring catches g, j in the parts e, h respectively, means being provided to disengage the rack a from the catches .9, j when the lead is to be withdrawn. The catch feeds the rack a forward when the part h is moved forward over the part e, and the catch g holds the rack a in its forward position when the part h is moved back. The rack a is connected at its rear end to a spring c which is extended when the rack is fed forward and which withdraws the rack when the catches g, j are disengaged. The rear end of the spring is attached to a knob d carrying a pin d' projecting through the slot f in the part e into a stepped slot i in the part h. The catch g is disengaged from the rack a by turning it on the part e, and the catch j by moving the part h forward over the part e and rotating the part h on the part e, the pin d<1> entering a side extension in the slot i. In a modification, the spring c is omitted and the rack a withdrawn by gravity on the disengagement of the catches g, j.
