The rubber tyre c is reinforced with fabric e', and is formed with lateral grooves e, into which fit endless metal rings f having their outer surfaces flush with the sides of the tyre. Bolts g with countersunk heads pass transversely through one of the rings f, and through the tyre to engage the screwthreaded ends in holes in the other ring, so that, by screwing up the bolts, the tyre will be compressed laterally and its base d will be forced into close contact with the rim b. Flange rings h are afterwards secured to the felloe a by transverselyplaced bolts. In small wheels, the bolts g may be dispensed with, the compression between the flange rings giving the necessary compression.
