Abstract
867. Harrington, D. Jan. 13. Spindle apparatus.-The ring of a ring-and traveller frame consists of two sheet-metal telescopic sections 4, 7, Fig. 2. The outer section 4 is flanged at 5, and rests on the rail 1 of the spinning- frame. It is enclosed by a wooden or other non-metallic sleeve bevelled at its upper edge 9. The inner section 6 is bevelled at 7, and has a non-metallic sleeve 10 bevelled at 11 and having a rib 12, thus forming a non-metallic groove for the hooked traveller 13, which may be lubricated by wax, tallow, &c. The annular holder 3 is flanged at 16, a space being thus left for the lateral adjustment of the ring, while moving concentrically on the bobbin 2. An elastic washer 17 allows vertical adjustment as the tension on the yarn 15 varies, and also gives a frictional resistance to the rotation of the ring on the bobbin. An annular cap 18 keeps out the dirt. The inner metallic section 6, with its sleeve, locks the several parts which are in frictional contact throughout.
