Abstract
26,603. Tcherniack, A. Dec. 3. Circular looms.-The loom may be constructed to weave simultaneously two or more pieces of cloth of different widths and texture. The warp threads e pass from beams a, arranged round a circle, over a bar f to the healds q, q<1>, and the cloth is taken up on a roller operated through a suitable train of wheels worked by a pawl and acting on a surface roller, as in an ordinary loom. Shuttle carriers.-The shuttle carrier consists of three concentric rings g<1>, g', g<3>, Fig. 6, separated by distance-pieces g<4>, and supported by arms from a central boss g loose on a vertical shaft j. Shuttle boxes.-The shuttles l are carried in boxes formed of plates k<1>, k<2> fixed alternately above the spaces between the rings g<1>, g<2> and g', g<3>. Picking-motions.-A reciprocating rotary motion is given to the carrier by a slotted lever p<1> fixed to the boss g, and oscillated by a pivoted lever n<2> and rod n' from a pin on a rotating disc n. The shuttle l in the box is passed through the shed, the warp threads passing through the spaces on either side of the shuttle. Shedding-motions.-The healds q, q<1> are operated by a rack and pinion on the shaft j, partially rotated, through a connecting-rod, by a cam acting on a bell-crank lever. Beat-up motions; lays.-The lay consists of a disc t, Fig. 4, with radiating arms t<x> to which the reeds u are attached, each reed forming an arc of a circle. The lay has a vertical reciprocating motion given to it through arms w<x> pivoted to a boss w, which is caused to slide on the shaft j by a lever v<1> pivoted at x and oscillated by an eccentric v on the main shaft m.
