Abstract

26,095. Brant, J. G., and Brant, A. B. Nov. 26. Mowing-machines, driving-mechanism for. The invention is described in connection with a mowing-machine in which the shaft 14 of the carrying or traction wheels drives the crank spindle 5 of the cutter mechanism by worm gear. The worm-wheel consists of two discs 13, each carrying a series of rollers 11 arranged in a circle, those on one disc alternating with those on the other and adapted to engage with the worm on opposite sides. To compensate for the movement of the rollers in their circular path away from the axis of the worm, the rollers a on one disc are set in advance iu relation to those b on the other, as shown in Fig. 5, or the worm may be made of varying pitch, as shown in Figs. 7 and 8. The worm is placed with the greater part of its length to the rear of the point at which its axis touches the pitch line of the wheel.
