Loom shuttles; stop - motions.-A stop - motion which is actuated on the breakage of a warp thread, or on the shuttle running out of its course through some irregularity in the formation of the shed, comprises a spring- controlled finger c pivoted within a recess in the upper part of the shuttle and normally having its point resting in a recess e, but projecting a little above the shuttle. When the positions of the warp threads are altered, either owing to the breakage of one or more threads or to some irregularity m the formation of the shed, the shuttle finger c strikes against one or more of the warp threads, and is turned upwards, as shown in Fig. 6. During the further movement of the shuttle, the finger strikes a catch-plate h pivoted to the lay and adapted to actuate a rod i of the stop mechanism. This rod has an upwardly-curved end m, along which the plate h slides during the backward stroke of the lay, finally striking an abutment on the end of the rod and causing the loom to stop.
