24,715. Carolan, E. A., [General Electric Co.]. Nov. 11. Dynamos, regulating; motors, controlling.-In the distribution of electricity, in which a combined synchronous alternating-current motor and a direct-current generator driven thereby are used, the field excitation of the motor is varied according to the load on the generator. The motor 1 is directly connected to the compound-wound directcurrent generator 2. The stationary part 4 of the motor receives current from the feeders 3, in which may be placed inductance coils 17. The field poles 5, 6 are excited by a separate exciter 7. The generator has a compound-wound field 10, and an armature 9. The ordinary shunt winding 12 of the armature is connected across the brushes 11, while the series winding 13 is also in series with a supplemental or compounding winding 14 on the field of the motor.
