Abstract

23,557. Tenow, A. J., and Flodstr÷m, J. E. Nov. 21, A.D. 1901, [date applied for under Patents Act, A.D. 1901]. Conveyers.-In a roller-way for conveying lumber and other articles, the rollers 1, Fig. 1, are connected to an endless chain 2 or wire rope which passes over drums or chain-wheels 3 at the ends of the track. The upper and lower parts of the roller-way may be used to convey lumber in opposite directions. The rollers run on deals or railway tracks 4, 5, supported by trestles 6, and may be driven by the chain-wheels or by a driving- device arranged at any part of the roller-way. The lumber is placed directly on the rollers, and is prevented from sliding off by flanges on the rollers, or by fixed side-walls on the roller-way. The speed of conveyance may be increased or diminished by making that part of the roller which bears on the track smaller or larger than the part on which the lumber is placed. The rollers consist of two parts 1, Fig. 4, journalled on a common shaft 11, to which the chain is attached. The rollers may be connected in pairs by a bar 8, Fig. 3, which has a downward projection 12 secured to the chain 9. Three or more rollers may be connected so as to form trucks, or all the rollers may be connected by links. In long rollerways where the lower part need not be used, the roller-way is made in parts. The parts may be coupled so as to be all driven from the same driving-mechanism, or may be uncoupled so that only the part in use is driven. The parts may also be driven separately.
