Gelatine is prepared from pelts, skins, or other gelatinous substances, or is separated from substances containing free gelatine, by placing the material to be treated in a centrifugal chamber a having a filtering-jacket b. Steam and hot water are supplied as required by pipes e, f, and the solution of gelatine passes away through the chamber c, either directly to the reservoir g or to the vessel h, where its density may be tested. The solution is afterwards evaporated in vacuo, and the gelatine obtained dried in the usual manner.
