20,421. Lake, H. H., [Barnes & Erb Co.]. Sept. 18. Ironing-machines.-Relates particularly to apparatus for ironing the underlying portions of garments having overlapping parts. The table A, Fig. 1, carried by a sleeve on the standard B, is raised into contact with the ironing-surface C by the sliding-block D operated by the toggle joint E. A metal plate M<1>, Fig. 4, is inserted between the folds of the garment so as to cover or underly the whole of the two parts, such as the halves of the bosom of an open-fronted shirt; the underlying part M is perforated. In a modification, the underlying part is narrow, as in Fig. 5, and is tapered to an edge to prevent creasing. Such plates may be used with other ironing-machines or with hand irons.
