Abstract

16,500. Frederiksen, A. July 24. Locks, key.-A hollow key stem 1 is secured within the casing of a door &c. lock by a bush 3, and is provided with a chamber 5 divided into maze-like passages for a ball 4. On a ring 7, secured to the chamber 5, and on a dial 6, fixed to the stem and located outside the casing, are letters or numbers corresponding with openings 8 made in the periphery of the chamber. A movable ring 10, provided with one opening 9, is arranged upon the periphery of the chamber, and can be turned so that any desired hole 8 is brought into register with the hole 10. When it is desired to actuate the lock mechanism, the registering holes 8, 9 are brought under a shoot 13 and a ball inserted. By turning the key in the proper manner, the ball 4 is passed through the casing and delivered in the stem 1. It is then pushed forward by a spring-controlled plunger 21, so as to force a sliding bit 15, against the action of the spring 17, into engagement with a lock section 18. The lock mechanism can then be operated by turning the key. Upon releasing the plunger 21, the ball falls down a passage 27 into a receiver 28, and can be taken out by opening the back-plate. The passage 27 may be so arranged that the ball is delivered in the chamber 5 through an opening in the side thereof. In this case, the holes 8 and the ring 10 are dispensed with. The upper part of the shoot 13 may be hinged to allow of the ready removal of any obstruction.
