15,664. Gearing, E. July 14. Corrugating.-Relates to machinery for producing the bulblike corrugations in boiler flues described in Specification No. 21,085, A.D. 1901. The tube is first rolled to the section shown in Fig. 1, and the corrugations are then flattened out to bring the tube to the section shown in Fig. 2, after which the bulb-like form of corrugation shown in Fig. 3 is produced. The section shown in Fig. 3 may be produced from that shown in Fig. 1, by a mill such as shown in Figs. 4 and 6. The flattening is effected by the rolls h, i, the tube being guided by the side rolls j. At each side of the roll h is a pair of bars such as shown at m in Fig. 7. Each bar has a series of inclined rollers r, rotating on or with short spindles s. The spindles in one of each pair of bars are inclined in the opposite direction to those in the other. The bars are screwed through nuts, which can be rotated , through gearing to bring the rollers r to the distance apart necessary to produce the bulb-like section required. The bars are mounted in blocks o, o', which can be raised in the slides p, p<1> by means of hydraulic or other gear. In a modification, the rolls h, i are made in short lengths, which can be held at the desired distance apart by screw gear.
