Abstract

13,705. Kip, F. E. June 17. Loom weft-replenishing mechanism; stop-motions; bobbins.-A feeler 12, which may be a rod with adjustable head 15, is mounted within a casing 10, so as to slide therein, and is controlled by a spring 13. A lever 22 is pivoted to the feeler, and has a short arm 22<a> and a longer arm which engages with a crank arm 25 on a shaft 23 having a crank arm 26 engaging with a slotted arm 27 pivoted to the wett-fork slide 6. When the shaft 23 is actuated by the lever 22, the arm 26 depresses the arm 27 into the path of the weft-fork hammer 7, and the loom is stopped in the usual way, to allow the weft to be replenished. During the normal running of the loom, there is sufficient weft on the bobbin 20 to prevent the short arm 22<a> from striking the shuttle S, but, on exhaustion of weft, the arm strikes the shuttle and effects the lifting of the lever 22, as shown in Fig. 4. The pivot 21 of the lever 22 may be adjustable. The apparatus may be used in connection with an automatic weft-replenishing mechanism, of a known kind. In a modified form of the apparatus, the lever, corresponding to the lever 22, Fig. 4, is normally held down, against the pressure of a spring, by a hooked sliding rod which performs a function similar to that of the short arm 22<a>. The bobbin may be formed with a recess at the part against which the feeler impinges, or the feeler may strike against a spring fitted within the shuttle.
