9843. Griswold, N. W. April 29. Drinking-appliances for animals. -Relates to drinking - fountains for the use of men and animals. A cistern B is placed in the upper part of a stand or casing A and is filled by means of a supply pipe C having a valve at d. The cistern is also fitted with an outlet pipe H, by means of which the cistern is emptied into a pivoted drinking-trough D. A valve is arranged in the pipe H opposite the valve d, and these two valves are operated by a cranked spindle actuated by a link from an arm m projecting from the trough D in such a way that, when one valve is closed, the other is opened. The supply pipe C is fitted with a branch terminating in a rose r. A spring valve a is arranged in the branch pipe, and is operated by a cam arm g on the trough D in such a way as to cause a jet of water from the rose r to rinse out the trough D each time the trough is raised or lowered on its pivots. The trough D is provided with a spout, by means of which the contents of the trough may be emptied down the waste pipe F. The cistern B is fitted with a cock U, and a drinking-cup is attached for the use of persons.
