ALBERT HOBERECHT, OF ENSENADA, MEXICO.
AUTOMATIC WATER-BALANCE.
$PECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 697,086, dated April 8, 1902.
Application filed April 20, 1900. Serial No. 13,664- (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT HoBEREoHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ensenada, Lower California, in the Republic of Mexico, have invented a new and useful Device to Maintain at all Times Liquid at Any Desired Elevation, of which the following is a specification.
In the annexed drawings I have shown my device as applied to a watering-trough.
The object of my invention is to provide simple means to constantly maintain a liquid in a trough or vessel at a desired elevation and to change that elevation at pleasure without placing in the trough any float, as with a ball-cock or other obstacle to the free and unmolested use of the trough. In localities where water is scarce it is desirable with a View of economizing in the use of water that means should be at hand to adjust the elevation at which the water in the wateringtrough will stand. I accomplish this object by means of the mechanism shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a central vertical longitudinal section, the valve portion being shown in elevation, as the peculiar form of the valve is immaterial and a view of the interior thereof is omitted. Fig. 2 is a plan view of my device.
The trough A is connected to the supply by means of the supply-pipe D, which opens into the bottom of the trough. On the supplypipe D, I have mounted a vertical cylinder I, the supply-pipe connecting freely with the bottom. In this cylinder I place a cylindrical float B, having a working fit in the cylinder, projecting upward from the cylinder I. I provide an arm F, to which at its upper end the lever E is pivoted. One end of this lever is pivotally attached to the upright bar G. This bar is pivotally attached to the float B. The other end of the lever E is pivotally attached to rod J. This rod is in turn pivotally attached at its lower end to the lever K of the valve H, by the movement up and down of which the valve H is opened or closed.
My device will operate as follows: Water being in the trough at the level indicated therein in dotted lines and the float in the position shown, the moment any water is taken out of the trough the float B will fall, opening the valve K and permitting the water to flow into the cylindrical chamber C until the level of the water in the trough is restored, which will carry the cylinder I to its normal position, when the valve will be again closed and the water shut oif, only to be turned on again when the cylinder again falls, which it will only do when the water is lowered in the trough. Now if it is desired to change the elevation of the water in the trough A the end of the lever E is moved vertically along the upright bar G into a new position on the bar, the bar being provided with a plurality of holes for that purpose. This will cause the valve to be operated when the float is at a different elevation and cut off or open the valve H when the float is in a different elevation, and thereby change the level of the water in the trough.
, Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv The herein-described means to regulate the level of Water in a trough, or receptacle, comprising the trough A, having connection with the chamber 0; the cylindrical chamber 0, adapted to receive the cylindrical float B; the float B carrying rod G pivoted thereto, and pivotally connected to the lever E; the lever E, being pivotally mounted on the upright F, forming a fulcrum therefor, one end pivoted to the rod G, and means, substantially as shown, to regulate the elevation of said connection with said rod, and the other end pivoted to the rod J; the rod J, pivoted to the valve-lever K of the valve H; the valve H arranged to be opened and closed by the means shown and described; and the pipe D for carrying the fluid, substantially as shown and described.
In witness that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto subscribed my name, this 9th day of April, 1900, at Ensenada, Lower California, Mexico.
ALBERT HOBEREOHT.
