Abstract

8984. Kempshall, E. Feb. 24, A.D. 1901, [date applied for under Patents Act, A.D. 1901]. Moulding balls.-In the construction shown, a core of soft rubber &c. is enclosed in three concentric shells 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, each composed of celluloid with an interior layer of fabric. The shells may be formed in hemispheres, which are arranged so as to break joint. The core, or the inner shell, may be coated with cement. The celluloid is preferably combined with the fabric under heat and pressure. The parts are assembled in a heated mould 27, 28, as shown, and are welded together by pressure. Less than three shells may be used, and all of them need not be in the form of hemispheres. Other material than celluloid may be used. The outer surface of the ball is generally pebbled, as shown.
