Abstract

8479. Beau, H. April 11. Ornamenting.-Relates to a keyboard instrument with electric contact makers and circuits containing coloured electric lamps arranged to produce harmonious scenic or decorative lighting effects, which may form an accompaniment to an orchestra, or be used for illuminating dancers, figurants, or scenery. The seven colours of the spectrum correspond with the seven notes of the musical scale, and intermediate colours represent the sharps or flats. When a key of the key board is depressed, a circuit is completed through a spring b, copper bar a and solenoid d, a movable core e is raised, and a second circuit is completed through a spring lever f, a mercury cup, and the electric lamps L. Resistances u can be thrown into the circuit to diminish the light by pedals, which complete separate circuits through solenoids X and thus raise forked conducting cores t out of mercury cups. Cylindrical sliding switches R, S, with metal conducting rings and intermediate insulating rings, may be introduced into the circuit to enable two systems of lamps to be illuminated either separately or together. Electric incandescent lamps may be grouped to form stars or designs, or coloured screens may be moved before arc-light projectors.
