Rail joints; rails, securing to sleepers; chairs. - The rail ends are held down by being bolted to the plates e, placed in or under the concrete foundation or sleepers d. The plate e may be a T-section casting, Wedge-shaped washers f<3>, with a rib at one edge tc prevent turning, afford a level bearing for the nuts. A plate i<1> with inturned edges may be used as a shoe to support and embrace the flanges at the rail ends, and may also be held by the bolts f. This construction may also be used to secure the rails between the joints.
