Abstract

6648. Eavens, E., and Lavens, E. J. March 18. Signals, bell, electric - Lamp, reply or tell - tale. -Ships' telegraphs and the like are arranged so that the transmitter can send any one of a predetermined set of signals and, by means of telltale lamps and a bell, can show if the order has been received and carried out. The receiver is arranged with bell and visual indicators, and has also an electromagnetic reply and engineer's switch. Fig. 2 shows a front view of the transmitter without the dial and pointer. The handle 11 is on a lever connected to the rotating switch arm 26, which carries contacts for closing the desired signal circuit; G<1>, G<2> are the indicators or tell-tale lamps. The handle is provided with a switch P, by which the circuit is broken until the pawl 17 engages in the desired notch 16. Fig. 5 shows a section of the receiver, G being one of the series of lamps and R its operating-magnet. The armature 34 of the magnet R controls a contact lever 35 operating a series of contacts and also a shutter lever 40, by which an opening below the lamp is exposed.
