Abstract

1064. Livesey, H. Jan. 15. Wagons; underframing of bodies; bodies.-Relates to cheap, light, and strong under and other frames. Longitudinal beams, arranged on opposite sides of the centre line a-b, comprise upper angle-irons 1, extending from buffer beam to buffer beam, and lower angle-irons 2 of less length and bent upwards, as shown in Fig. 1, at their ends, which terminate adjacent to the irons 1, a little beyond the centres of the bogie pins. The beams 1, 2 are braced internally by the flat bottom plate 4 and by the two spaced dished plates 5, while channel bars 6 tie their horizontal flanges 1<1>, 2<1> to the buffer beams. The beams 1, 2 are also connected between the bogies, by vertical angle-irons 10, to vertical plates 9 flanged at the top and bottom. Flat bars 12 and angle-irons 13, arranged as shown in Fig. 4, are riveted to the side sills 11 and other parts of the framing, and the beams 13 may be extended upwards to form stanchions 13<11> for the sides of the wagon. At or about the bogie bearings, the arrangement shown in Fig. 3 is used, comprising a flat bar 12<1> and channel bars 13' stiffened by supplementary struts 14. In a modification, the ends of the beams 1 are splayed and connected to the outer ends of the buffer beams.
