785. Lake, H. H., [Clark, A.]. Jan. 10. Phonographs and like sou d-recording instruments.-Relates to gramophones &c. for recording and reprodufing sounds. The record is preferably formed with a central bevelled opening or recess to receive a cap or disc B, shown in Fig. 2, on the face of the record disc F in which is cut a spiral groove to guide a point C attached by an arm D to the stylus carrier lever. The point C may be multiple, and is then so shaped that the points do not touch the bottom of the groove. The support for the round trumpet consists of an adjustable rod mounted in a pivoted rod with stops carried by a frame having a vertical pivot. The trumpet socket is adjusted on the rod by a collar g, Fig. 8, and an articulated joint h, i. The joint tube is pivoted to an elbow tube m carrying the diaphragm box n. The diaphragm box is rotatably secured to the tube m, for changing from recording to reproducing, p being a weight acting as a catch with the rod p<1> when recording. The diaphragm is mounted on a rubber gasket and has the recording and reproducing tools q, r mounted on a bridge o. The record may be grooved on its underside and may be provided with a two-part metal case, the lower part of which has a central opening to allow the case to be used with the record.
