25,635. Katz, P. Dec. 16. Air supply, regulating.-Relates to automatic combustion regulators for the furnaces of low-pressure steam or water heating plant. For steam heating, the regulator shown in Fig. 1 is employed, and consists of the air-supply casing a, the float d in the float tank c, and the valve g on the float spindle f, which controls the air supply to the channel and to the furnace grate. The pipe i is connected with the boiler, so that, when the pressure rises in the boiler, the float is raised and the valve g closed on the seat h. To reduce the combustion by admitting air to the chimney or by the production of a counter current in the chimney, the regulator valve g is made to seat above the top of the casing a, so that, as the boiler pressure rises, the air supply to the chimney channel is increased. For water heating, the regulator, shown in Fig. 3, consists of the float d in the tank c which communicates with a central tank containing a definite quantity of water and air and surrounded bya water jacket in connection with the heating-pipes k. The regulation, as in the steam plant, is effected by cutting off the air supply to the grate or by supplying air to the chimney.
