Tyres, pneumatic etc.; felloes or rims.-Relates to attaching to rims protected tyres of the type described in Specifications No. 11,993, A.D. 1898, Nos. 7358 and 23,107, A.D. 1899, and No. 4238, A.D. 1901. In the typical tyre, the cover 22 has thickened edges formed by folding the reinforcing- canvas 9, and is provided with bent metal plates 6, which take under the turned-in edges of the rim 7. In the improved tyre, the reinforcing- canvas 9 is not folded, but is carried straight to the edges, and rubber thickenings are formed either on the edges 10, Fig. 2, of the cover or by separate strips 18, Fig. 7, which may be connected by a rubber band 20 lying within the rim 7. The separate strips may be attached to the cover by canvas, the edges of which are secured by the bolts which hold the plates 6. These plates may be employed to repair tyres of which the thickened edges have been damaged, and the means which fix the plates may also secure a protective strip 17. The covers are formed by rolling the rubber and the reinforcing-canvas on a drum 25, Fig. 8, which has a groove adapted to produce the tread 27. The tread is finally provided with metal protectors 2 secured by transverse bolts 3, which, in the improved tyre, pass through either canvas pleats or strips 12, Fig. 2, arranged parallel to the plane of the wheel or longitudinally-arranged cords 19, Fig. 7.
