Abstract

18,346. Ziegenberg, R. Sept. 13. Recording electric currents.-In an apparatus for recording continuous current or electric pressure, two straight magnetic pole-pieces a, b are inclined to one another on permanent magnets N, S. The upper pole-piece a has a rounded lower surface, and is wound with a coil in grooves or on the surface. A paper band, not shown, travels continuously, on an endless inking-band, over the lower pole-piece b and parallel supporting-rollers. An iron ball d is held in place magnetically on the paper ; when current passes through the coil, the ball moves along the pole-pieces, across the paper, and marks this. Small straight magnets n may be provided to increase the pressure of the ball on the paper. The upper surface of the lower pole-piece b may be flat or rounded. The inking-band may be dispensed with, by using paper coated with carbon or colouring-matter, which can be marked and afterwards fixed. In a modification, the pole-pieces are inclined or vertical, so that the ball is raised by the effect of the current in the coil.
