Abstract

14,297. Dagbert, H. July 13. Shearing.-Relates to machinery for slitting the points of pens and for analogous purposes. Fig. 3 shows a longitudinal section of the machine. The tool-slide a, made in two parts a', a<2> adjustably connected by the screw a<8>, slides between guides at the front of the frame b. The connecting-rod c is made in two parts c<1>, c<2> provided with oppositelyscrewed ends c<4>, c<5> united by the screw sleeve c<3>. The pin d' is secured in a block d<3> which may be moved relatively to the axis of the driving-shaft e by turning the screw spindle d<6>. The driving- pulley g<1> runs loose on the shaft f and is brought into or out of frictional contact with the clutch element g<2> by turning the hand-lever g<5>. The edge i<3> of the upper cutting-tool i is slightly inclined so that the amount it overlaps the edge j<3> of the lower cutting-tool j, when at the bottom of its stroke, can be regulated by altering the relative positions of the parts a', a<2> by turning the screw a<8>. The pen is kept in proper position at the time of slitting by an adjustable gauge k fixed to the cutter i and by the rod m<1> which slides through the adjudable pillar m<4> and forms a stop for the point of the pen. The pen is supported partly on the cutter j and partly on the disc n, Fig. 10, which is provided with a series of notches n' to take pens of different widths.
