Abstract

10,255. Kirby, G. C. May 17. Lubricators; bearings for the shafts of straw cutting and bruising attachments of thrashing machines. The bearing is self-aligning and self-oiling, and is made in two parts A, E. The upper part A is formed with recesses for rings K, which rest upon the shaft and dip into an oil reservoir, and, as they are carried round, lubricate the shaft. The part A has a spherical seat which fits into a corresponding recess in the end of a screw plug C passed through the cap D. The part E has a similar seat F fitting a corresponding recess in the lower part of the pedestal G. A pin J on the seat F fits loosely into a groove to prevent the bearing from being carried round with the shaft. An oil reservoir is formed in the pedestal and is fitted with a gauge covered by a guard plate M, with a filling hole R and with an emptying plug P. Leather washers N are secured by rings O at the ends of the bearing to exclude dust and prevent escape of the oil.
