9678. Reddaway, F., and Dessau, M. M. May 9. Stoppers. - Relates to the manner of forming and decorating or distinguishing the heads of bottle and like stoppers, especially those of the screw type. The portion of the head forming the decoration, or serving to identify the make of the stopper or bottle or the contents of the latter, consists of a "disc" B of metal. bent over at the edge B', Fig. 3, so as to form an undercut recess, into which the material forming the stopper is pressed in the process of moulding. A separate ring B' may be employed in addition to the disc B, and the disc may be formed with one or more perforations such as B<3>, Fig. 5, through which the material is expressed into the form of buttons A'. When the disc is formed with perforations B<3>, the bent edge B<1> may be omitted, and the material may be forced around and over the edge of the disc B, both these variations being shown in Fig. 5. The disc may be applied during or after the process of moulding the stopper body. Fig. 7 shows a suitable mould, the section C which forms the head of the stopper having a recess C' adapted to receive the disc. The disc may be made of metal covered with paper or celluloid, or of other suitable material, and may bear a trade mark, or letters, or decorative matter. The disc may be substituted by a " setting " material; or it may be made of rubber &c. In the latter case it can be affixed in the ordinary process of vulcanizing. The Provisional Specification also states that the disc may be of button or like form, with a head or perforated shank, around or into which the stopper material will flow.
