Abstract

8967. Parker, T. H. May 1. Bending.-An armature coil for a dynamo or electric motor is formed by first winding the wire into a plain coil, and then bending this coil into the required shape by means of a pair of vices, one of which is movable relatively to the other. The wire is wound into a plain coil on a former A, having a shuttle-shaped core B and a removable side attached by bolts C, after the manner shown in Fig. 1. One side of the coil is then gripped between the jaws b, b<1> of a fixed vice H, Fig. 3, and the other side between the jaws g, g<1> of a second vice K, pivoted at f. By means of a handle N, the vice K is turned into the position indicated in dotted lines, and the coil is thus formed into the required shape. A rule is given in the Specification for finding the proper position of the pivot f.
